The new season of Bluey will have more New Zealand touches than ever before.
Kiwi musical icon Neil Finn has made his first appearance in hit Australian cartoon series Bluey – but the episode hasn’t aired in Aotearoa-NZ yet.One of nine new episodes to be added to season 3, the story revolves around Bingo pretending to be Bluey’s new employee, “in the middle of Dad’s backyard workout!”, according to the official synopsis.

Finn plays a doctor Dad visits at the end of the episode.
The former Split Enz frontman has one line: “120 over 80, excellent,” the doctor says. “Gotta say Bandit, you’re in great shape.”

Finn joins a long list of celebrities who have guest starred in the beloved cartoon, including author and skin care specialist Zoe Foster Blake and her husband, comedian Hamish Blake, as a pair of Jack Russell Terriers; Conservationist Steve Irwin’s son, conservationist and zookeeper Robert Irwin, as a dingo.The doctor dog voiced by Kiwi musical icon, Neil Finn, makes his first appearance in Bluey.
Internationally famous actors Rose Byrne, who voiced Chilli’s older sister Brandy, a red heeler; Natalie Portman, who voices a whale early in season 3, and singer-songwriter and performer, Lin Manuel Miranda, writer of the hit stage show Hamilton, who voiced the show’s first horse, Major Tom.
Miranda ended up in the show after The Guardian reported he said he “wouldn’t dare appear in it”, even though he wanted to.“The show we watched the most during the pandemic was Bluey. It is the only kids show that the whole family can be hysterically laughing at. But I wouldn’t dare guest star on it. You need to be Australian to be on that show.”

Speaking to The Guardian Australia after voicing his part on the show, Miranda called Bluey, “really special, really kismet, that the show that got us through the pandemic”.“I played Bluey’s first horse. Two lines, and I’ll never top it.”Despite the show’s popularity in the US, the family show has also caused some controversy.
